ACTION
Trump’s use of the National Guard is a threat to our democracy.

“The excessive use of force and escalation by deploying 2,000 National Guard troops against protesters in Los Angeles is an alarming authoritarian overreach by the President and his regime. This disproportionate military response to largely peaceful protests risks further inflaming tensions and eroding civil liberties that are fundamental to American democracy.
The President's false characterization of protesters as "insurrectionists" and "paid troublemakers" is a dangerous attempt to delegitimize dissent and justify oppressive tactics reminiscent of a police state. This is the hallmark of dictatorships and an unacceptable transgression in a democratic society governed by the rule of law.
These protests, regardless of one's view of them, in no way constitute an armed insurrection or present a threat to national security. They represent the exercise of constitutional rights that must be safeguarded, not suppressed through martial force.
The governor and mayors have made it clear that federal intervention is unwanted and unnecessary, as local law enforcement has the situation under control. Activating a state's National Guard without the governor's request for the first time in 50 years is an unconstitutional violation of state sovereignty.
Specific incidents like ICE agents shooting tear gas, flash-bang grenades, and less-lethal rounds at protesters in Paramount demonstrate an unacceptable willingness to use military force against civilians exercising their First Amendment rights. Arresting union leaders like David Huerta for protesting further chills free speech.
The excessive militarization risks a catastrophic escalation of violence in a major American city against our own citizens unjustly targeted by draconian immigration crackdowns. I urge Congress to intervene and curtail this reckless overreach to prevent further civil rights violations and uphold democratic principles. Forcefully check and balance this regime's authoritarian abuses of power immediately.”

Brain Cancer Update
A new study led by Keck Medicine of USC researchers may have uncovered an effective combination therapy for glioblastoma, a brain tumor diagnosis with few available effective treatments. According to the National Brain Tumor Society, the average survival for patients diagnosed with glioblastoma is eight months.
The study found that using Tumor Treating Fields therapy (TTFields), which delivers targeted waves of electric fields directly into tumors to stop their growth and signal the body's immune system to attack cancerous tumor cells, may extend survival among patients with glioblastoma, when combined with immunotherapy (pembrolizumab) and chemotherapy (temozolomide). I am so glad people are finding cool treatments.
Trump Cancels Vaccine Research
The Trump administration’s cancellation of $766 million in contracts to develop mRNA vaccines against potential pandemic flu viruses is the latest blow to national defense, former health security officials said. They warned that the U.S. could be at the mercy of other countries in the next pandemic according to the Kaiser Family Foundation
Strategies to protect the public from pandemics were designed by the security council and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority at the Department of Health and Human Services, among other agencies. The plans rely on rolling out vaccines rapidly in a pandemic. Moving fast hinges on producing vaccines domestically, ensuring their safety, and getting them into arms across the nation through the public health system.
The Trump administration is undermining each of these steps as it guts health agencies, cuts research and health budgets, and issues perplexing policy changes, health security experts said.
Since President Donald Trump took office, at least half of the security council’s staff have been laid off or left, and the future of BARDA is murky. The nation’s top vaccine adviser, Peter Marks, resigned under pressure in March, citing “the unprecedented assault on scientific truth.”
Countries that manufacture their own vaccines are able to deliver vaccinations to their residents much faster than those that do not. During COVID we in the U.S. were getting second doses while countries who purchased vaccines off shore were getting their first dose. It is a life and death issue to make vaccines here.
Moreover, mRNA vaccines are safe and effective. Here is an example. In dozens of published studies, researchers have found that mRNA vaccines against covid are safe. For example, a placebo-controlled trial of more than 30,000 people in the U.S. found that adverse effects of Moderna’s vaccine were rare and transient, whereas 30 participants in the placebo group suffered severe cases of covid and one died.
A Kaiser Family Foundation poll found that 73% of Republicans trust Robert F Kennedy Jr., the guy with a brain worm, who founded an anti vaccine organization, more than they trust their public health department for telling them the truth.
I can only conclude that Republicans are a deluded cult and the truth does not reside anywhere near them.
Flu season will be on us soon. Get vaccinated, School will be here before we know it, get children and grandchildren fully vaccinated. Here is the CDC guidance for vaccinations. You might want to download it in case the brain worm guy takes it down from the HHS websites.

Measles Update
The number of measles cases in the U.S. so far this year has quadrupled compared to 2024 and is nearing a 30-year high. As of Friday, there have been 1,168 confirmed measles cases across 33 states nationwide, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last year, the U.S. saw just 285 measles cases, CDC data shows.
