Abortion Care Resource
Advocates, I received an email from NARAL - Pro Choice (National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws) this week and it had their recommendation for an a new abortion care resource, Charley. It will also be in our resource section below and in our reading resources.
COVID-19 UPDATE
Teammates, I have received a number of questions about the new COVID-19 vaccine released yesterday Sept 12, 2023. I am not a physician, but the I wanted to share advice from the Kaiser Family Foundation with you about this. Here is a link and the article I posted yesterday. I found it useful.
Reproductive Rights
Yesterday AP reported that (link) women in Idaho, Tennessee and Oklahoma sued those states over abortion bans after being denied care. They were in life threatening situations and legislators effectively told them “drop dead” and make their children orphans.
We reported that a major hospital system in Idaho is unable to hire Ob-gyn staff. Doctors with critical skills to manage complicated pregnancies and births are leaving states where abortion is banned for fear of imprisonment for providing life saving care to their patients.
What kind of country is it where states, like Texas have 51 cities that make it illegal to traverse their roads to drive someone out of state or to an airport if they are getting medical care.
The legislators and courts that have such a callous disregard for women and and their lives is a disgrace.

Let’s remind our representatives in Washington that they can save lives and restore rights for more than half of the population by passing HR 782 - Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, HR 3420 My Body, My Data Act, HR 4303 the Abortion Justice Act, and of course, HR 12 the Women’s Health Protection Act. I am your constituent and I just read how women in Idaho, Oklahoma and Tennessee have sued their states because the anti-abortion laws put their lives at risk. The states force them carry harmful, unviable fetuses way past the time when it would have been easy and safe and effective to protect those women’s lives. How many women’s lives need to be put at risk before you restore their right to abortion care? What this country has done is just heartless.
I want you to actively support and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, HR 12, to make abortion legal everywhere in the US. I also want you pass
H.R. 782 -- Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act
This bill affirms that everyone has the right to travel across state lines to seek abortion care.
H.R. 3420 -- My Body, My Data Act of 2023. This bill would create privacy standards so that our personal health data stays personal.
H.R. 4303 -- Abortion Justice Act—This bill would remove systemic barriers to care and address disparities and systemic racism in reproductive health care.
Lives are at stake. Please act like it. Thank you.
Transgender Care
I hate when people use healthcare to punish others. The depth of cruelty is just amazing. I cannot imagine the struggle and difficulties faced by anyone who is transgender. I know care exists and that there is strong evidence that it will vastly improve the quality of life, reduce stress and just make life better.
I am always saddened to see legislators, who generally have no specialized knowledge other than their feelings, punish anyone for who they are instead of looking to medical professionals.
A new Florida law restricting health care for transgender people can still be applied to adults while it is being challenged in court, a federal judge ruled Monday. Judge Robert Hinkle, who previously blocked the law’s enforcement on behalf of minors, ruled that adults seeking to expand his injunction haven’t proven they would be irreparably harmed until the case is resolved. I am your constituent and I am outraged that Florida has made gender affirming care illegal for anyone in that state. What kind of country have we become where persecution of minorities by denying them needed and medically accepted healthcare is normal? I want you to write pass legislation that makes gender affirming care legal country wide to prevent this kind of persecution. Thank you.

Shared Charley with my peers. Thanks for this information. While it may not affect me personally, I don’t ever want a young woman to not have a choice about her reproductive health.
Interesting concept to have subjugation of humans by withholding or restricting healthcare and health Access. Certainly needs to be asked, are women the New slaves?
