Good Morning Healthcare Advocates
I’m very thankful for your advocacy for healthcare reform. It will take all of us spreading the word and letting our representatives know what we want them to do. Over and Over and Over.
Good News
We have a goal of Universal Healthcare for All. Good News ahead, we have it on good authority that Representative Jayapal (WA) will be reintroducing a better version of her healthcare reform bill in about 4 weeks. Stay tuned.
More Good News
Governor Inslee of Washington sent governor Brad Little of Idaho a letter regarding the Abortion Trafficking Bill Idaho passed. Inslee told Little that he questions the constitutionality of the trafficking bill, and that Washington welcomes anyone who wants an abortion to come, and that it is illegal to punish providers in Washington for performing legal procedures in Washington. Have a nice day!

Stand Up for Reproductive Healthcare or be Knocked Down
We already know that doctors and other providers are scared to perform needed abortions for fear of imprisonment. Recall yesterday’s story about a Florida mom who has to carry a fetus to term when it will die immediately after birth.
Now the ruling in Texas that seeks to restrict medical abortion nation-wide by revoking the medication Mifepristone affects Big Pharma and they are worried. It is a non-scientific assault on the legally mandated authority to determine what medications can be prescribed to Americans. Vaccines and other needed treatments could easily go down the drain putting medicine back to the state it was in 1900 when life spans were really short (less than 50).
If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the biased Texas judgment, then it will be very difficult to bring new medications to the market. Let’s remember that many medicines are designed in Universities, often on public funds, but that the drug makers run the clinical trials to demonstrate safety and efficacy so that the FDA has data on which to base their recommendation to approve or deny sale in the US. Part of the incentive of paying for the testing is that you will be able to make sales.
400 drug and biotech leaders slammed the Texas ruling for that reason. (NY TIMES). If the Supreme Court upholds Kacsmaryk’s decision, the industry would likely push Congress to pass legislation to cement the FDA’s authority, according to John Murphy, chief policy officer and deputy general counsel of healthcare at BIO.
While we wait for this to play out this week, and wait for the Universal Healthcare bill to pop up, let’s let our elected representatives know that
We want the Women’s Health Protection Act Passed so that Abortion is safe and legal and
We want them to design legislation to lock in the FDA’s authority and protect it from this kind of ignorant and vicious attack in the future.

I strongly support S. 701 and HR 12. The Women’s Health Protection Act. Women’s rights are in peril and you have the power to help protect them. Assaults at legal reproductive health clinics are on the rise (according to the FBI and the National Abortion Federation). Forcing women to carry to term is slavery. I want you to cosponsor and advocate for the passage of this bill, LOUD AND LONG. More than half the population needs protection and it is up to you.
I want you to work on crafting legislation that protects the FDA from the ignorant and vicious and biased assault we saw in Judge Kacsmaryk’s courtroom this week. I know you can do it.
