Authoritarians Seizing Power
I’ve been thinking about healthcare and healthcare delivery in relation to the political system around us. We are faced with significant challenges.
The political arguments in the Amarillo, TX federal courtroom of Judge Kacsmaryk remind me of Alice in the Looking Glass.
Let’s recap.
Those bringing the suit want Mifepristone made illegal and argue that the FDA did not perform due diligence for safety. That an accelerated approval process was used and so the FDA violated its own rules and the drug should be withdrawn from the market.
Fact: According to the doctors that oversaw the investigation, putting mifepristone through this process wasn’t an attempt to get it to market more quickly — rather, it was about showing that the agency was approaching the controversial drug with an abundance of caution. Despite the name, the accelerated approval process was used to subject mifepristone to heavier regulation and more monitoring after it was approved. It certainly did not speed up approval. From start to finish, approving mifepristone took 54 months. The average length of the process for all other drugs approved in 2000 was 15.6 months.
It is exactly backwards. More investigation and research into the safety of the drug - not less.
Here is one part of the suit that is strictly from Alice in Wonderland. Physicians want standing in the lawsuit. That is they claim to have been harmed by Mifepristone’s availability. They claim they were harmed because abortions took place and they were denied prenatal and maternity service fees.
This is more backwards logic.
Let’s be clear and remember from whence this comes. This is an attempt to subjugate more than half the population. Who voted that women were to be 2nd class citizens? This is a way to manipulate and subjugate a large part of the American population. Remember that some states are instituting legislation that makes abortion a felony for the providers and the mother. Doctors and pharmacists are already scared of jain in places like Texas. This is not liberty or freedom this is the authoritarian state.
The Federal government can put a stop to this. We need to holler long and loud so that they know this is important.
