Good Day Healthcare Advocates
I’m very thankful for your advocacy for healthcare reform. It will take all of us spreading the word and letting our representatives know what we want them to do. Over and Over and Over.
Remember there are Organization links at the bottom of the newsletter, including Planned Parenthood. Resources on claims and denials and what to do are there and the League of Women Voters Healthcare Reform toolkit. Good Stuff. If you need reproductive healthcare resources open the link for the Healthcare Advocacy Reading list and I’ve put some in there.
We will take a brief break until the 28th. Until then read, share with others, and let representatives know what you want.
If you have topics you want to hear about or additional links to share please send me a comment.
5th Circuit Court of Appeals Ruling
Recall that the 5th circuit court of appeals 3 judge panel put the FDA rulings on Mifepristone back to 2016 levels creating chaos. Limits how many weeks a woman may be pregnant to 7 or less, must go to a doctor, can’t get pills in the mail. Those were the 2016 pre expansion rules. Find them here
A 2-1 decision. What’s going on? A third judge, Judge Catharina Haynes, voted to temporarily block Kacsmaryk's decision in its entirety until the case can be fully evaluated. What a shock, a woman does not want the ban in place while the case is decided. But two judges who lack a uterus and compassion seem to think it's ok to restrict its use.
Part of the problem was that the original suit in Texas was past the statute of limitations. So those two judges are allowing the restrictions that are within a statute of limitations from 2016, talk about judicial advocacy. So much for the dark side.
On the other side, a Washington judge’s ruling demanding the FDA make Mifepristone available in the 17 states that wanted to restrict it contradicts the 5th circuit court decision.
Off to the Supreme Court to decide.
The problems with all of this myriad. First, torturing women and making their lives difficult, then essentially removing the authority of the FDA, which was mandated by law to approve drugs for use nationwide.
We need to let our representatives know this nonsense has to stop. I can’t believe I am on teh same side as Big Pharma but this time they are right. The authority of the FDA must be hardened against this kind of anti-social, Taliban like behavior aimed at making women chattel.
You know what to do . It’s right below.
Here is the Action Below
USE RESISTBOT to Text Your Senators and Congressperson and the White House the message below. We can be repetitive in our message - they need to know we mean it.
Text SIGN PJOLXB to 50409 to send the message below
I want you to support, pass and be vocal about the Women’s Healthcare Protection Act. Enough of women being treated as second class citizens. Put the abortion discussion where it belongs, between women and their healthcare providers. You are either a woman or related to one and you owe them that.
I also call upon you to strengthen the FDA rules of operations so we don’t have this Mifepristone debacle with any other medications, like say vaccines or HIV antivirals, or chemotherapy.
Lastly, get that ERA into the constitution, You or your sister, or mom or daughter need you to stand up for them.
Please step up and take care of this. We are counting on you.
