Abortion Update from Texas
Recall that Ms. Cox, a 31 year old mother of 2 in Texas needed an abortion because her fertility and life were at risk because her fetus had a terminal genetic disease. Death occurs in the womb for all of them either in the womb or no later than one week after birth.
She requested that the court system in Texas allow an abortion to save her life. Yesterday, they responded to her request. NO was their answer. Lose fertility, lose your life, that’s just too bad for you.
She had an abortion out of state.
I want all of you to remember how remember that when the Affordable Care Act was proposed Republicans cried long and loud that they did not want the government standing between themselves and their doctor. undue government interference, they proclaimed.
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS BUT UNDUE GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE?
ACTION
Let your Member of Congress and Senators know you’ve had enough undue government interference. PASS THE WOMEN’S HEALTH PROTECTION ACT and RESTORE THE RIGHT TO AN ABORTION NATIONWIDE.

“I am your constituent and I am so angry about government standing between women and their doctors. The Texas Supreme Court just decided that even if a woman’s life and fertility are in danger from a high complication pregnancy, that’s too bad - NO ABORTION.
How many women have to suffer before you take action? One is more than enough. I want you to get up and co sponsor and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and restore the right to abortion healthcare nationwide NOW. Thank you.”
Life Expectancy
Recall that life expectancy is far below our 35 peer industrialized nations. They are in the 80’s we in the mid 70’s. It rose a little after COVID last year but not as much as expected. Recall also that it is lower in states that choose to have lesser environmental rules, fewer labor rules, and lower COVID vaccination rates - read that Republican controlled.
Over the last 70 years, average global life expectancy has increased more than 25 years. And while scientific and social advancement has allowed us to live longer - we aren’t necessarily living healthier. Age related chronic disease will impact nearly every person over the age of 60. And diseases of aging have huge human and economic costs. Now, doctors and scientists around the world want to combat the health challenges of getting old by combating aging itself. Last month, XPrize launched their newest competition - XPrize HealthSpan - which challenges teams to develop therapeutic treatments that target biological aging rather than disease. The 101 million dollar prize will go to the team that develops a therapeutic that restores muscle, cognitive, and immune function by a minimum of 10 years, with a goal of 20 years, in persons aged 65-80, with a therapy that takes less than one year.

How Good Is Good Cholesterol?
According to a new study, high levels of HDL-C, more commonly referred to as ‘good cholesterol’, are linked to an increased risk of dementia in older adults.
The study found that higher than recommended levels increased the risk. Staying in the recommended optimal range was best for you.
The study authors explained that very high levels of HDL-C associated with dementia risk in their research were uncommon and not connected to diet, but there was a greater chance it indicated a metabolic disorder. The findings were published in Lancet
Doctor’s Musing on Time to Try Universal Healthcare
Here is an opinion piece by Dr. Reness Hsia, MD, “The Impracticality of Treating Healthcare as a Market Commodity”. I recommend spending a few minutes to get a physician’s view of the healthcare world.
