Abortion Terror
Texas is one of our states that has chosen to radically restrict abortion in the face of the reversal of the “Supreme Court’ Dobbs decision.
Many localities in Texas have made it illegal to drive on public roads to go out of state for an abortion. More than 20 women have sued the state because they were denied abortions in dangerous life threatening situations and at least one of them has lost her ability to have children because of that denial.
Last Friday, December 8th, the Texas Supreme Court stayed an appellate court decision denying Katie Cox, a 31 old mother of 2, her right to an abortion in a life threatening situation. Her fetus has Edward's syndrome. These babies die within a week of birth. Worse yet Cox’s doctor warned that carrying the pregnancy to term could jeopardize her health and future fertility, including uterine rupture and hysterectomy, according to the lawsuit filed on her behalf.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) asked the Supreme Court of Texas to intervene to block Cox from obtaining an abortion. The Texas Supreme Court’s brief order on Friday night did not specify when it would make its final decision, but merely stated that the issues raised “remain pending before the Court.”
Let's be clear. The court won't let her have the abortion while it condiders the matter. Each day that goes by puts her life in greater jeopardy. The attorney General has threatened any doctor or facility with criminal proceedings for helping her. The penalty is a felony and up to life in the state penitentiary. I've extracted the story from the Washington Post paywall for you. Here it is, https://wapo.st/3RBluEo.
Will the Supreme Court will be responsible for the needless hospital and medical bills and the untimely deaths of women it sentences in this way? It's easy to make decisions when you have no responsibility.
On a personal note, let me share that a dear friend of my wife was in a coma due to a pregnancy gone wrong. When the doctor recommended an abortion to save her life, the father said no. He wanted the boy. This woman had two lovely daughters. You know how it ends. She died in childbirth and so did the baby. The father took off leaving the girls as orphans to be cared for by grandparents.
It's a different story but it illustrates what happens when women are not considered as people but merely as procreating vehicles. Remember that even Shakespeare called out for compassion “When you cut us do we not bleed?….”
Clearly, when states decide, women suffer. I'm not sure that that's what equal protection means. The only solution is to make abortion legal nation wide. Let's do that.
Action
Let's let our legislators know how outraged we are about Ms. Cox's situation in Texas and let them know it is time to restore a woman's right to bodily autonomy by passing the Women's Health Protection Act now to protect abortion rights nation wide. Here is the link to the Washington post story if you want to share it https://wapo.st/3RBluEo. The contact info for senators and Members of Congress is in the Resources section below. I am your constituent and I want uou to know about a woman in Texas who in jeopardy and needs an abortion and the Supreme Court there is thinking about it. Her doctor said her fertility and life are in jeopardy without it. Judges are not doctors. Here us a link to the Washington Post article https://wapo.st/3RBluEo.
You can make this madness stop. Women are not just baby engines. They are fully realized capable people. I am asking you to please pass the Women's Health Protection Act and restore the right to an abortion nationwide now. DO IT. Thank you.”

Done!
This Texas situation absolutely INFURIATES me! And the latest news is the Ms Cox is leaving the state to procure her required medical care. Not sure what that means for her if she returns to TX afterwards. It is sickening.
I hope that the nation wakes up and delivers a resounding & crushing defeat to ALL “repugnican” candidates in 2024. They have shown us clearly who they are. And it is NOT in keeping with the majority of the public’s opinion.
