Women’s Healthcare Update - Not Good
National Public Radio reported today about the state of pregnancy care in Louisiana. That state has one of the most severe abortion bans in the nation. Doctors can be fined up to $200,000, lose their medical license and be sent to prison for up to 15 years for violations. Doctors are scared as a patient. Women with ectopic pregnancies or miscarriages are being mistreated and allowed have their health deteriorate to near death before intervention because doctors are so scared. Typically, an abortion is the standard of care to maintain the woman’s health and future fertility. Not now.
In fact, in a recent report by, Physicians for Human Rights, doctors described cases of women who experienced preterm premature rupture of membranes (when the "water breaks" early in pregnancy, before the fetus is viable).
Some of these women were forced to undergo Cesarean section surgeries to empty their uterus and avoid infection, instead of receiving an abortion procedure or medication. if there is a membrane rupture (water breaks) prior to fetal viability, C-section is not the standard of care instead of abortion. This is a major surgery and carries with it significant risk. This is actually the least safe thing to do for the patient. One OB/Gyn commented that this is what's in the best interest of...the physician in protecting themselves from prosecution.
Doctors described another serious deviation from standard medical practice, OB-GYNs in Louisiana are now delaying routine prenatal care until patients reach 12 weeks of pregnancy — the point at which the risk of miscarriage drops significantly.
Delaying pregnancy care into the second trimester can be dangerous for people who might have complications, such as a history of blood clots or an ectopic pregnancy that goes undiagnosed, doctors told NPR. Without treatment, some pregnancy-related problems can lead to birth defects, stroke, heart attack, or even death.
This is what happens when politicians decide to decide to push false religious doctrine on the public instead of allowing doctors to care for and save patient’s lives. BTW major evangelical churches used to be pro abortion because they cared about women. The change was a capture of churches by political activists. We can discuss that another time.
ACTION
We need to overturn this kind of terrorism at every level locally, statewide and nationally.
Make sure that you vote for politicians at all levels who support the right to an abortion.
Let’s tell our member of Congress and Senators to get in gear and pass these 4 laws - Contact info in the Resources section below.
Extend the deadline for The Equal Rights Amendment
H.R. 12/S. 701 - The Women’s Health Protection Act - that restores abortion rights
H.R. 767/S.4467 - Protecting Access to Medication Abortion Act
H.R. 4121/S. 1999 - Right to Contraception Act

“I am your constituent and I want you to know that a recent report by NPR detailed the data collected by Physicians for Human Rights about the state of pregnancy and birthing care in Louisiana. That state banned abortion and can sentence a doctor to 15 years in prison of one is performed. Here is a link to the report - read it. https://phr.org/our-work/resources/louisiana-abortion-bans/?utm_source=homepage
Patients with complicated pregnancies (ectopic and others) are now being left to become near death before they are treated. If a woman’s water breaks before the fetus is viable a C section is performed, instead of an abortion. This surgery carries significant risk for the woman and is what is in the best interest of the doctor avoiding jail and NOT in the patient’s best interest.
Wait, there’s more, many OB/GYNs don’t want to see a woman who is pregnant until she is 12 weeks along after many miscarriage risks have passed because they don’t want to be faced with the abortion issue if the pregnancy has issues. This delay of care is a danger to the baby and to the women involved.
I want you to know that these are primary voting issues for me I want you to work hard to pass
H.R. 12/S. 701 - The Women’s Health Protection Act - that restores abortion rights
H.R. 767/S.4467 - Protecting Access to Medication Abortion Act
H.R. 4121/S. 1999 - Right to Contraception Act
and then since women are NOT EQUAL in about HALF OF THIS COUNTRY
Extend the deadline for The Equal Rights Amendment
Your loud public stand on these issues is critical.”
Measles - CDC Health Alert - 3/18/2024
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness and can cause severe health complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), and death, especially in unvaccinated persons. Measles (rubeola) is highly contagious; one person infected with measles can infect 9 out of 10 unvaccinated individuals with whom they come in close contact.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory on 3/18/2024 to inform clinicians and public health officials of an increase in global and U.S. measles cases and to provide guidance on measles prevention for all international travelers aged ≥6 months and all children aged ≥12 months who do not plan to travel internationally. 93% of cases reported in 2024 were linked to international travel. Most cases reported in 2024 have been among children aged 12 months and older who had not received measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. Many countries, including travel destinations such as Austria, the Philippines, Romania, and the United Kingdom, are experiencing measles outbreaks. To prevent measles infection and reduce the risk of community transmission from importation, all U.S. residents traveling internationally, regardless of destination, should be current on their MMR vaccinations.
Healthcare providers should ensure children are current on routine immunizations, including MMR. More details are in the formal Health Alert.
Action
The vaccine is safe and effective and readily available at almost all commercial pharmacies that vaccinate. Make sure little ones are vaccinated and if you were born after 1956 check if you need a vaccine with your healthcare provider.
